THE first casualty of Jeremy Corbyn’s reshuffle told the Chronicle he has paid the price for ‘speaking out’ in defence of colleagues but has no regrets about what he did.

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher was the first to get the chop from the Labour leader’s shadow cabinet on Tuesday, losing his post as culture minister to former shadow defence minister Maria Eagle.

Mr Dugher, who has been critical of Mr Corbyn’s leadership, announced the news on Twitter.

He said Mr Corbyn had told him he did not like the things he had been writing, and Mr Dugher posted a link to an article he penned for the New Statesman last month which said the sacking of shadow cabinet ministers who voted for intervention in Syria would ‘betray’ the original promise of Corbyn’s leadership.
