A CLAMPDOWN will see council tax evaders face being jailed for up to three months as the council tackles its debt recovery issues.
The council’s ruling cabinet is next week expected to approve a raft of measures, with committal to prison being one of a number of options designed to cut the number of repeat offenders who do not pay their council bill.
A report to be seen by councillors states: “The council currently operates a robust recovery process for debt collection but once initial stages have been explored and a debt is returned, the council is restricted in what action it can take.
“This issue has then been compounded by repeat offenders who do not pay year in, year out.”
