NURSES who work for Barnsley family nursing programme were left in tears when they found out the service was to be scrapped.
Council papers have revealed it is a high cost service costing £425,127 last year, though it is currently only being used by 100 women.
Unison secretary Tony Wright said: “What’s frustrating is if they are not providing the service required, why haven’t they been given the chance to change?
“It’s all happened so quickly. When the nurses were told, they were in tears. They care so much about the people.
“There are 15-year-olds with children and they’ve got drug problems or mental health problems.”
