AN ASYLUM seeker who fled the horrors of war-torn Sudan and ended up in Barnsley has formed a new football team for asylum seekers and refugees.
Jaber Mohamid Abdullah - who likes to be known as Jimmy - has set up the team called Barnsley City.
As an asylum seeker Jimmy is not allowed to work which he says he understands but finds very difficult.
“I do not like to sit at home, only eating and drinking. I feel I must do something to make myself better, to improve myself. I am only happy when I am doing something to help people.”
Jimmy went to Barnsley Job Centre in the hope of finding somebody who could help him find work or opportunity. It was a manager there who put him in touch with Barnsley Football Club which has enabled him to form his new club, which trains at Oakwell every Thursday, with matches on Saturdays.
