THE NEW council headquarters has won an environmental award for the way it produces energy.
Westgate was named best public building at the Yorkshire and Humber Microgeneration Awards thanks to its biomass boiler, which creates fuel from wood waste.
The council also came first in the best policy category because of its commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.’
It was said to have gone from being a ‘king coal council’ to a ‘council of carbon neutral buildings.’
