A SHAGGY dog story that got tails wagging has led to praise for police in Penistone.
Officers ‘went beyond the call of duty’ when a shop owner suspected that a pedigree dog for sale at the fur and feather market in Penistone town centre was stolen, said one shopkeeper.
A ‘disorientated’ four-year-old Shih Tzu dog was offered by three youths to ladies’ clothes shop owner Susan Morely for £150, she said.
“I knew it was stolen — it looked too good to be attached to a piece of orange cord,” said the 49-year-old. “The dog seemed disorientated and the boys said he was called Freddie but he didn't answer to his name.”
PC Peter Hepworth and PC David Senior attended the markets’ area after Mrs Morley contacted them on Saturday morning.
