Former loan striker George Waring was not considered as a transfer target for Barnsley this season due to his injury problems.

The Stoke City man has now joined JPT rivals Oxford United on loan for a month and if the spell is extended beyond that then he could line up against The Reds at Wembley on April 3.

Waring, 21, scored six goals for Barnsley in his 19 game spell on loan last season.

But a knee injury he picked up earlier this season meant he was never considered an option.

Caretaker Paul Heckingbottom said: “It could be interesting if he plays against us. Since he went back to Stoke he’s had problems with injuries so he just needed to get out and get playing again.

“He will be desperate to do well.

“When his name was mentioned he had been struggling and if we wanted a striker now he’s obviously not available.

“He has had a bad time with injuries so from George and Stoke’s point of view it’s about getting minutes.

“When he became available it was obviously Oxford that wanted him.”
