WASTE from a road resurfacing programme in Barnsley has been given a second lease of life to help improve two community projects in the Penistone area.
Barnsley Council is spending more than £1m on resurfacing roads, which involves ‘planing’ the surface to scrape off a layer of Tarmacadam.
The Penistone Clean and Tidy Team, which was set up to carry out tasks in the area beyond the remit of normal council staff, has now used several tonnes of the material to create a new car park surface at Springvale Community Garden, working with volunteers to spread the material.
