GEORGIAN asylum seeker Davit Khutsishvili is attempting to enlist the help of Princess Anne to save his daughter Nina from being deported.

Davit, who founded Barnsley International Football Club, met the Princess Royal last April when he was rewarded for his contribution to the Barnsley community.

He is pursuing his request through the Community Foundation, the group which organises the community hero awards.

Davit’s details have now been passed to the Community Foundation president, David Moody, who is also the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and the Queen's representative in the county.

He said: “I have huge respect for what Davit and his daughter have done. “I was present when he was presented to the Princess Royal and I know just what his contribution has been to the Barnsley scene, and to junior football in particular.”

Davit said he may also protest outside the House of Commons in London in a last ditch attempt to stay in the country.

Nina, 25, is being held in Yarl’s Wood detention centre in Bedfordshire until she can be deported.

Davit said: “She's been in prison for two months and we don’t know about why, and we've got no bail. This is really serious.

“I want to ask the government — why are you ignoring Barnsley people, Barnsley Council, three MPs, community champion, Princess Royal and BIFC children? “My daughter is sitting in prison and it’s a crazy business.”

Nina, who is seeking political asylum in the UK because of fear of persecution in her home country, attended a meeting at the Georgian embassy in London on Tuesday.

Davit added: “We don’t trust the government and the people working in this embassy.”
