A BARNSLEY MP has confirmed an offence of corporate manslaughter is being considered by health and safety officials investigating the death of a teenager at a Grimethorpe quarry.
Amber Worth, 13, of Park Avenue, Grimethorpe, was playing with friends at the quarry behind Carlton Main brickworks a fortnight ago when she was crushed by a boulder.
Jeff Ennis, MP for Barnsley East and Mexborough, was reluctant to go into too much detail about the investigation but said: “I don’t want to set any hares running until we have got the results.
“The investigation that is being carried out at the present time will be looking at that particular issue (corporate manslaughter).”
Mr Ennis said people in Brierley and Grimethorpe had been expressing concern about the lack of fencing and warning signs around the quarry, which is still easily accessible to the public despite the accident.
He now wants to arrange a meeting with Carlton Main and other organisations such as the youth service, when investigations are complete, to discuss ways of preventing further tragedies .
