A LITTLE girl with a rare cancer was left devastated at not being well enough to lead the Reds out on to the pitch at Wembley.
Aalish Naylor, six, suffers from neuroblastoma and had been due to walk out with friend and captain Conor Hourihane ahead of the team’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash with Oxford on Sunday.
But in between chemotherapy treatment, an infection and high temperatures meant Aalish was not well enough.
Her mum Jo, 39, of Hawthorne Crescent, Dodworth, said: “She was pretty devastated. She hasn’t seen Conor for a long time and had been looking forward to seeing him. But there was no way we could get her down there.
“She’s had a pretty rough time of it, but the Barnsley fans and Oxford fans have been amazing.”
