HAVING spent years trying, in vain, to instill some interest in domestic chores into my offspring Rory and Harvey have been a revelation.
THEY LOVE HOUSEWORK! Now before you get too excited and conjure up mental images of two cute kittens in aprons, clutching their feather dusters ... I will elucidate ...
What actually happens is that I do the chores and they do their best to throw a spanner in the works.
Oh how they love dancing around the vacuum cleaner and the joy of pouncing on the dustpan and brush ... sending the contents scattering everywhere. They also take great delight in clinging onto the duster as I try a touch of polishing.
But without doubt their favourite household task has got to be ironing. Leaping in and out of the ironing basket, dragging away pieces of underwear. They proceed to play with then discard them in the most unlikely places. Knickers in the shoe rack, socks on the doormat, how on earth did my bra get there? The fun of it all! And if they really want to stress me out there’s the two-pronged attack ... Harvey swings on the iron flex while Rory launches himself at my leg, clinging on with razor-sharp claws in a bid to get onto the ironing board!
Ignoring the excruciating pain, I grip the iron tightly fearing a kitten catastrophe!
How boring housework used to be ... ten times quicker but boring all the same ...
