COMPULSORY purchase orders may now be needed to ensure one half of a Goldthorpe street can be demolished by Barnsley Council more than a year after they gave the initial green light.

Plans were approved in April of last year to demolish 19 houses on one half of Beever Street but it has taken time for the council to negotiate prices with the owners of the properties.

Dearne Coun Annette Gollick admits it has been a frustrating wait.

She said: “It has been a very frustrating time for residents of Beever Street with the negotiations to purchase properties 1 to 37 seeming to have gone on forever but hopefully a conclusion will soon be in the offing.”
