BARNSLEY has been promised a “transformational” change to the area’s rail network over the next ten years with improved trains, more services, improved station facilities and more community links.
Ariva took over the Northern franchise 50 days ago and have announced £1bn investment across the region which will bring direct benefits to the Barnsley area.
Although the investment will come over a decade, the company is promising to overhaul its services in several key areas within 44 months of taking over.
That will see new or totally refurbished trains running, with shorter journey times, more frequent services and more seats available.
