A BUS partnership has been hailed as a ‘positive step forward’ for Barnsley by council bosses.
A report on the Barnsley Bus Partnership went before ruling cabinet members seeking approval to sign the heads of terms for the deal between the council, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and bus operators.
The council believes that while Barnsley’s existing bus network is ‘adequately’ serving present need, it does face a number of challenges.
Coun Roy Miller said Barnsley has ambitious economic and housing growth plans to bring about large scale regeneration and having a good quality bus strategy is ‘vital’ to that. The council’s position is that what is in place now is ‘hampered’ when it comes to connectivity.
