A MILITARY-style funeral was held for a former soldier who was killed while working as a security guard in Iraq.
David Matthews, 28, 'fought like a lion' but died after the vehicle he was in was blown up by a roadside bomb.
Ex Lance Corporal Matthews left the army two years ago but was in Iraq working for a private security company, Aegis.
His coffin was draped in a union flag and was carried through a guard of honour formed by soldiers in uniform and other Aegis security men.
Aegis chief executive, Lt Col Tim Spicer, paid tribute to David, who was known by nicknames, Monty and Matty. He said, on May 24, he received a signal with the dreaded words 'Road incident report. One Aegis personnel seriously injured.'
Lt Col Spicer added: "He fought like a lion against very serious injuries. Tragically, he died."
