A PETITION to stop the speeding traffic ‘death trap’ on Dearne Hall Road in Barugh was submitted to the council this week. Fears about vehicles blasting through the village were highlighted earlier this year when a car crashed through a house front window, narrowly missing two children. Now residents have put together a petition of more than 200 signatures asking the council to take steps to slow traffic. The petition has been available to sign in the Millers pub for the last few weeks and landlord Wayne Stephenson said he hoped to see speed bumps or a mobile speed camera installed. “It’s disgusting, and the council aren't willing to do anything about it. It’s just a death trap waiting to happen.” Coun Linda Burgess said development in the area, including the Dodworth bypass, had led to an increase in volume and speed of traffic. She added: “There are some real problems down there.”
