A PERMANENT memorial to Grimethorpe’s mining heritage could be established in the local church.

St Luke’s Church is in the process of undergoing extensive renovation with plans for a village hall to be created within the building.

Father Peter Needham wants the village hall to have an exhibition of mining memorabilia, artefacts and memories from almost 100 years of coal mining at Grimethorpe.

He is calling on the colliery's ex-miners for their support to help get the plan off the ground just as he and the miners worked together to get the miners’ memorial to those who died while working down the pit.

A meeting is to be held at St Luke’s next week to establish interest in the project.
