EVEN though the rain has stopped and the floods have receded the dangers caused by the deluge have not.
The Trans-Pennine trail has been badly damaged and is dangerous in places, Barnsley Council has warned. Flooded areas may be hiding sections of deep water caused by subsidence or erosion and river banks may be at risk of collapsing.
Trees could even be unsafe because the saturated land cannot support them and bridge supports could be damaged even if they look safe.
The council urged people not to ignore closure signs on bridges and roads and to stay clear of river banks.
