BARNSLEY Hospital raked in more than £1m in car parking fees over the last year, new figures have revealed.
A Freedom of Information request revealed the total paid by patients, visitors and staff in 2015/16 was £1,249,272.
There are 632 public parking spaces at Barnsley Hospital, and the first 15 minutes of parking is free in most car parks to allow people to drop off and pick up. There are spaces dedicated for disabled drivers, and concessions for those who have to go to hospital regularly.
On its website, the hospital states the cost of security and maintenance means it has to make a ‘modest charge’ so the cost doesn’t ‘divert away from patient care.’
