CHILDREN’S play areas in Grimethorpe are set to receive a major boost thanks to a planned housing development on a former school site.
The Chronicle can reveal that Saul Homes’ 97-home build on Willowgarth High School’s land, on Brierley Road, will yield £155,755 in Section 106 money - cash put aside for the loss of amenity - and some will be spent improving the village’s parks.
At last month’s planning board meeting at Barnsley Town Hall, members were told that Saul Homes wanted to get rid of a proposed play area from the development and instead provide an additional contribution of £58,314, on top of the pre-agreed £95,441, to boost existing recreation areas within Grimethorpe.
