SIXTEEN arrests were made in Barnsley during a major operation to crackdown on crime in the borough.
There was a heavy police presence in Barnsley town centre, Kendray and Goldthorpe on Wednesday as part of Operation Duxford.
More than 150 police officers from across the force were drafted in to work alongside officials including South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, the Street Pastors, the council, DVLA, Home Office immigration and the UK Border Agency to focus the spotlight on Barnsley and flush out criminal activity.
Officers were out conducting warrants at properties across the district from the early hours and throughout the day a total of 16 arrests were made for various offences including possession of drugs and shoplifting.
