A BARNSLEY man frantically banged on a neighbour’s windows with his bare hands after seeing her house was on fire.
David Hinchliffe, of New Street, Mapplewell feared his neighbour was in the house and began to hammer on the red hot windows to alert her.
Sadly David’s efforts efforts were in vain.
Minutes later the bodies of Carol Padgett and Patch, her Jack Russell terrier, were found by firefighters in the semi-detached property.
David told the Chronicle he had been working in his garage when he thought he could smell smoke at around 4.30pm last Friday.
