FLY-TIPPING in Barnsley is showing signs of easing, councillors have been told.

A detailed investigation into the blight of fly-tipping and what is being done to combat the borough-wide problem has been carried out by a group of councillors.

A report on their findings was given to the ruling cabinet on Wednesday.

At the meeting Coun Roy Miller said fly-tipping had gone down in the area since the Dumpit and Scarper campaign launched by the council aimed at debunking some myths about tipping.

Paul Castle, the council boss responsible for environment and transport, said: “I do not want to tempt it but we have had four months where fly-tipping has decreased and since we pulled the campaign stunt we have seen quite a dramatic reduction in fly-tipping being reported and we will continue with that work by putting a plan together for 2017.”
