JUST over a week remains before one of South Yorkshire’s most iconic landmarks plays host to one of the biggest pop music and comedy festivals this area has seen.

Wentworth Music Festival takes place next Sunday, May 28, and brings some big names from music and comedy together across four performance stages for a huge ten-hour event in the grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse.

Hosted by TV and radio presenter Pat Sharp, the main stage will feature Lemar, Heaven 17, Dodgy, Tony Christie and T’Pau alongside upcoming new talent The SSS and Sundance, a special collaboration between Toby Foster and Everly Pregnant Brothers frontman ‘Big’ Shaun Doane, one of the country’s most successful tribute bands in The Southmartins, and Barnsley’s own Bar-Steward Sons Of Val Doonican.

The Last Laugh Comedy Stage will feature award-winning comedy shows throughout the afternoon from the likes of Phoenix Nights’ Archie Kelly, BBC1’s Tom Binns as cult hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury of Peter Kay’s Car Share, and Sunday Night At The London Palladium star Steve Royle and Rob Rouse, better known as Shakespeare’s servant Bottom in Harry Enfield’s sitcom Upstart Crow.

The Chronicle has supported radio pals Toby Foster and Steve Wight organise the family event, with funfair rides and a dedicated Kids Comedy stage.

It promises to be a fun filled day with something for everyone in a beautiful countryside setting, complete with a wide variety of artisan food and drink stalls.
