WIND farms might be all about clean energy, but flytippers are not afraid to dump their rubbish near them in Great Houghton.
EDF Energy’s Park Springs wind farm, located between Great Houghton and neighbouring Grimethorpe, has become something of a lighthouse for people looking to illegally dump their unwanted waste.
A dirt track, owned by EDF and used for maintenance access to the turbines, has become plagued with piles of household waste such as leftover kitchens, sofas and more.
One walker, who did not wish to be named, said he had identified the rubbish and reported it five times to Barnsley Council, even including grid references and photographic evidence of the sites - but the council said because it is private land, it is down to the owner to deal with the waste.
