Barnsley made it back-to-back home wins with a 3-0 success over Sunderland at Oakwell on Saturday.
Teenagers Ike Ugbo and Harvey Barnes, surprise inclusions in the starting line-up, each scored their first Barnsley goal within three minutes of each other then George Moncur added a third in the second half.
The Reds now have six points from their first five games of the season and go into the two-week international break on a high.
Paul Heckingbottom sprang some surprises in the three changes he made from the side which lost at Sheffield United a week previously. Ryan Hedges and Tom Bradshaw, the only players who had scored for the Reds this season before the game, were both dropped to the bench as Barnes made his full debut and Ugbo started on his own up front.
Centre-back Liam Lindsay made his debut after replacing suspended captain Angus MacDonald. Sunderland almost took an early lead when George Honeyman's cross was sliced by Adam Jackson towards his own goal but Adam Davies spared his team-mates's blushes with a good save.
Brad Potts then blasted over inside the Sunderland box after Jason McCarthy did well to dispossess Lamine Kone on the byline on the right side of the area. Lewis Grabban blazed a good chance over the bar for the Black Cats after robbing Joe Williams of the ball.
Moncur then forced a good save out of visiting goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter with a low shot from 20 yards after good work by Potts who was fouled by Lee Cattermole but continued a driving run into Sunderland territory. Potts then missed a golden chance when he met an Adam Hammill cross but tamely sent a looping header straight into Ruiter's arms.
Barnsley took the lead on 31 minutes when Hammill brilliantly backheeled the ball through a Sunderland player's legs then passed to Barnes who whipped in a good low cross from the left which Ugbo tapped in from close range. Three minutes later Barnsley smashed in a volley from the left side of the box after meeting a cross from the right.
Barnsley were then lucky to keep ten men on the pitch as debutant Lindsay appeared to be the last man when he brought down James Vaughan who was running through on goal. The referee Chris Kavanagh only issued a yellow card and decided the foul took place just outside the box then Aiden McGeady sent the free-kick wide.
Potts fired straight at Ruiter early in the second half after a good lay-off by Ugbo, then Sunderland had two appeals for penalties after Vaughan went down in the box then Grabban tangled with Jackson. The third home goal came midway through the second half when Ugbo held the ball up brilliantly and beat a visiting defender just inside the Sunderland half before playing through Moncur who smashed into the top left corner. Adam Davies tipped over a long-range Grabban shot over the bar late on but Sunderland were well beaten.
