AUDACIOUS fly tippers dumped a settee, carpets and other household items within yards of housing in Pilley last Friday night.
Residents emerged to find the debris strewn across the pavement and into adjoining woodland and the carriageway on Saturday morning and the rubbish remained blocking the pavement throughout the bank holiday weekend.
Barnsley Council is facing increased problems from fly tipping across the borough, with most offenders operating at night, but most choose locations more isolated than New Road.
Part of the problem may be down to tighter restrictions of the use of public dumps, both in Barnsley and neighbouring authorities, but unlicensed waste disposal operators, who take payment for disposing of unwanted goods and then dump them, are also suspected of contributing to the problem.
