Adam Jackson has already started as many Championship games this season as he did in the whole of last season.

The 23-year-old centre-back was a back-up to Marc Roberts and Angus MacDonald during his first Oakwell campaign, but the sale of the former and a suspension to the latter has allowed Jackson and Liam Lindsay to establish themselves as the first choice pairing.

The former Middlesbrough man, who has played every minute of the Reds' nine Championship fixtures this season, said: "I am delighted to be playing every week. Me and Liam have only known each other a couple of months but we understand each other's games quite well and we have a good partnership."

Jackson has netted his first two Barnsley goals in the last month, against Derby County in the Carabao Cup then Wolves in the league on Saturday. He said: "You always want to be a threat in the opposition's box, but my bread and butter is to defend and try to get clean sheets. We have two or three really good set piece takers so me and Linds and Matty Pearson know we can go and attack it because they will put the ball in the right areas. It is just a matter of time before we all start scoring goals."

Jackson's strike at Wolves came in the 91st minute but the hosts then netted to secure a 2-1 victory. He said: "I have never had a high turn into a low so quickly in my career. It was a real kick in the teeth. I thought we were the better team and I thought we had the point. It was sheer elation when I scored but then it went the other way when they nicked the goal.

"We need to be more streetwise. We could have just held the ball in the corner after we equalised but we were a bit naive and we need to learn from that for next time. Hopefully it comes back around and we have a game where we don't play well but nick the win."
