BOYS are urged to take a break from football and computer games and swap them for slapstick and ridiculousness.
A new free drama club is starting in Wombwell next week and as well as staging a pantomime, the club will try out circus skills.
Green Top circus members will demonstrate clowning, mime, slapstick and ridiculousness.
Girls are welcome too but a number have already signed up. Only one boy has committed so far.
Youth worker Andrea Smith said: “For some reason girls are always more willing to join but it's great fun for boys too. They can come along and have a good laugh, but you never know, someone could turn into the next Billy Casper.”
The circus element is a side-show for the club, named Acting About. The main focus will be staging a pantomime for this Christmas, likely to be Cinderella.
Andrea said: “There are quite a few male characters so we desperately need a few more boys. Otherwise we’ll have to get girls to play boys.
“It won’t be quite the same Cinderella we all know though - it will be rewritten especially for Wombwell.”
All those who join the club will have the option to complete an arts award qualification.
The club, organised by Wombwell Communities Together, has its first session on Tuesday in the operatic centre on George Street from 6.30pm until 8. It is open to ten to 16-year-olds. For further details, contact Andrea on 755085.
