MAUREEN Hawkins married her childhood sweetheart 50 years after he stood her up - and today she is off to Australia for good to be with him.
Maureen and David Hawkins married in Barnsley but David, 70, lives in Australia. He only came for a few weeks in July but soon after the wedding returned to his home in Australia.
Maureen, 67, is to join him but she had to wait behind for nearly three months while she sold her house in Woodall Road, Darfield.
But today her bags are packed and she is waving goodbye to Barnsley for good, with perhaps a little tear.
