SHE sets off car alarms and staff have no I-deer how she got there but the Mercedes depot staff in Tankersley are quite fond of their little Bambi.

The red deer was one of 340 that escaped from Round Green Deer Farm in Stainborough over a year ago when the Animal Liberation Front cut through the fences and drove them out.

Some died in the wild, others had to be shot and it took farmers three weeks to round the rest of them up - all but two that is.

Re-marketing manager Ken Webster said their hind got a taste for the wild and re-escaped. He said: “Once she had seen the other side of the fence she got a taste for it and jumped over the fence again.

“The biggest mystery is how she has managed to get on our site as we have got a very high fence. “Apart from triggering the alarms and it being a bit of a nuisance she has become a bit of a feature here.”

Security guards on site saw her frequently over the summer but the dark winter nights have meant the sightings have become less frequent.
