SUMMER Lane has become a danger because of the effect of the residents- only parking scheme around Barnsley Hospital.

Those restrictions were introduced to alleviate parking on streets around the hospital.

Much of the problem is blamed on hospital staff and visitors but one consequence of the scheme is that commuters have stopped parking on streets like Winter Terrace and have debunked to Summer Lane. The problem is so great that parents fear a child will get knocked down on their way to Summer Lane primary school.

Worried parents Steve and Tracey Lowe, of Queens Drive, have two youngsters at the school. They told an area forum meeting, held at the school, that road safety is becoming a greater concern.

Tracey said: "The parking schemes around here have compounded the problem. It is absolute chaos and bedlam and we are concerned about our children's safety."
