THURNSCOE will lose its only youth club if a rescue campaign fails to win community support.
Funding for Hickleton Youth Project runs out in March, redundancy notices are ready to be issued and the nine staff will be laid off.
A Save Our Youth Club campaign will be launched on Monday January 21 at the premises adjacent to Thurnscoe Business Centre at 6pm. It that fails then the club will only be able to open with the help of volunteers.
“I want to get as many parents, volunteers, members of the community and kids to turn up and help to save the club from extinction,” said youth leader Ian Ball who has been running it full-time since March 2003 when it reopened after a five year closure.
He is hand-delivering a letter to the parents of every young person on the club’s database, which runs into hundreds, and printing posters.
