ANXIOUS residents - some fighting back tears - got a sinking feeling as they watched water levels on the river Dearne rise rapidly.
And many thought their worst fears that Darton would be flooded again were about to come true.
Environment Agency officials were called to the village on Tuesday after heavy rain caused the river to rise way above its normal level.
It came within inches of the footbridge between the Longfields and the car park at the rear of the post office.
Mill Lane was one of the streets worst-affected by the June floods, when Church Street was left under water. One resident, Lance Dobinson, is still living in a caravan as a result.
He said: "The annoying thing about it is the Environment Agency has done nothing whatsoever to help the river level drop.
"There is a tree that is blocking the flow that needs taking out. I have been out of the house six months and there is nothing I can personally do.
"There's nobody offering me help and no suggestions from anybody at the Environment Agency and no support from the council."
