EMERGENCY control teams have been set up as Barnsley braces itself for floods - just six months after swathes of the borough was lweft under water.
Police have set up a 'silver command' room to monitor the situation and officers are on standby to deal with any flooding that occurs.
And Barnsley Council's emergency committee has met this morning to prepare its repsonse to the deluge.
Localised flooding has already been reported as residents - many of whom are still not back in their homes because of the summer floods - brace themselves for more problems.
Smithies, Darton, Elsecar and Wombwell are suffering. Jill Booth works at the Debra charity shop in Darton she said: "I think the river is going to go to be honest. It is flowing really fast and is higher than it was last week.
"We will be really lucky if it does not go today, we have just got to hope and pray."
• Milefield primary, Grimethorpe, is closed today because of flooding and Darton High school will not open because of problems in the surrounding area as a consequence of the rain.
