A MAJOR incident has been declared after the Environment Agency issued two flood warnings for Barnsley.
The EA annouced at 10.30am that the river Dearne, at Darton and Barugh, was at serious risk of breaching its banks.
Residents who have concerns about the flooding should contact Barnsley Council, on 774444, where sandbags are ready to be issued on a priority basis. Some staff have been pulled from their regular duties to help with the emergency effort.
• Priory school, Lundwood, is partially closed because of the flooding. Darton High and Milefield primary hhad already closed. Wombwell High school is shut due to a heating fault.
