A SOLDIER from Cubley has taken time out from his duties in Germany to hone his skiing skills in the French Alps - and he could do with a bit more practise.
Lance Corporal Jack Bradbury, 22, took part in the skiing championships for British soldiers based in Germany and came 70th out of 83 in the giant slalom. He bettered that by ten places in the individual slalom and came 60th.
The championships, called Exercise Pipedown, were held in the French ski resort of Les Contamines Montjoie from January 11 to 24 with more than 200 competitors providing 35 teams. It is the 14th time the competition has been held at the resort near Mont Blanc.
Jack, a former Penistone Grammar School pupil, said: “I've only been skiing for five weeks this year. I have had a go in the past, briefly and enjoyed it very much, so I jumped at the chance of competing and getting good at skiing.”
