CAWTHORNE teenager Andrew Buckingham has swapped the round ball for the egg-shaped ball and is now one of the top players in the county. The 16-year-old has been called up to the Yorkshire under 17 and 18 rugby union squad, despite being released by Barnsley Football Club as a junior.
Andrew, who plays outside centre, attends Queen Elizabeth Grammer School in Wakefield, but has been training with the Elite Player Development squad at Leeds Tykes rugby academy for the last two years. It was here where he earned his county call-up.
