A SHOCKED elderly couple who have lived in the same house since it was built 54 years ago have been told it is being demolished to make way for a road.

Raymond and Doreen Ingram raised six children in their semi-detached home on Farm Road, Kendray, and thought they would see out their lives there.

But they have now been told they are being evicted and re-housed because their semi is being demolished to make way for an access road for a new development on Larch Place.

Neighbours Joe and Christine Smith, who have lived next door for more than 30 years, have also been told their house will go. The first either couple knew of the situation was when they were visited by Berneslai Homes officers within the last week.

Ex-miner Raymond and Doreen are now sick with worry, haven't slept properly since finding out and fear being forced to move could kill them.

She said: "I am 73 and Ray is 75, we can't be upping and moving at this time in our lives. We have made this a home for 50 years.

"It's knocked us for six, we can't eat and can't sleep. I have been bad with my nerves and Ray has angina, I'm worried about him because it is on our minds all the time. It's like a bombshell."
