BARNSLEY Hospital has installed ten new electric vehicle charging points in its car park for staff to use after a survey showed an increased trend of people using low emission vehicles.
Low carbon vehicles, such as electric cars, are a greener form of transport emitting fewer toxic and harmful gases than a standard car does and they reduce the negative impact that combustion engine cars have on the environment.
The NHS offers a lease scheme ad as a result bosses know there are at least 50 staff cars that can use the new charging points not including any privately owned electric cars.
Three ground mounted dual sockets and four wall mounted single socket chargers, that can together charge a total of ten vehicles at any one time, have been installed in the car park for staff to use.
They were installed after a survey was carried out by members of staff at the hospital which assessed the demand and support for electric charging points.
They are available for members of staff with electric cars who have a permit to park in the hospital’s main car park and a user group has been set up so that members of staff can communicate with each other about the charging points.
