ORGANISERS of Wath Town Gala fear that someone is trying to scupper their plans after an entertainer and shopkeepers were told that it was cancelled.
Sabotage is suspected after a woman who runs the swings and roundabouts rang Wath-upon-Dearne Community Partnership to check if Saturday’s annual event was going ahead. She’d had a call cancelling her rides.
“I don’t what’s going off but it’s a pretty mean trick,” said Melanie Swanwick, development worker. “We found that our posters had also been taken down when we went to check after someone told us that there were very few in the shops.
“Some shopkeepers said they’d been told it was cancelled and others hadn’t noticed that the posters had gone.”
It will be held in the town hall grounds tomorrow and will be opened at noon by the deputy mayor of Rotherham.
