A PAY dispute between striking factory workers and Wybone management has been settled, nearly two months after the industrial action began.

An agreement between Community union and the Platts Common company was reached on Tuesday. Staff had been unhappy about a three-per-cent pay increase and unlimited bonus scheme that was backdated to Christmas.

Union members campaigned for a three-and-a-half per cent increase but both sides have settled on an undisclosed percentage and a guaranteed bonus scheme.

Community member Mark Simpson said campaigners were pleased with the outcome. He said: "The guys are happy that they have succeeded and gained some movement. We feel it was all worthwhile.

"We now get a guaranteed bonus payment every year and guaranteed bonuses. There will also be two people are on the members' board for the bonus scheme in case there are any problems."

The employees initially refused to work overtime from April, then went on a series of one day strikes in May. When no settlement was reached, the floor workers went on a week-long strike in June.

Now all employees are back to work at the outdoor furniture manufacturers. A company statement says: "Wybone Limited and Community are pleased to announce that a settlement has now been agreed between both parties, and as such, no further industrial action will be taking place. Both the company and the union are now looking forward to working together, to continue to ensure that Wybone remains the leading manufacturer of street furniture and environmental solutions in the UK."
