A RED-TAPE ruling which prevents the burning of eco-friendly wood fuels could soon be abolished after a Barnsley Council officer highlighted the flawed policy.
Principal design engineer Dick Bradford addressed a conference in London last week and spoke about the 'nonsensical situation' that prevents wood being burnt in coal boilers.
Representatives from the government's environment department, Defra, were in the audience and Mr Bradford said: "I asked did they not agree that this was a situation that needed to be amended. We can legally burn a fuel that pollutes the atmosphere but cannot burn a fuel that doesn't."
