MP Mick Clapham has met postmasters in Barnsley West and Penistone to assure them he will help those affected by proposed Post Office closures.
The planned closures, revealed two weeks ago, include Hoyland West Street.
Postmasters have six weeks to lodge an appeal against the closures during a six week consultation period that ends on September 22.
The MP has asked those Postmasters who want to fight the decision to arrange a petition of their customers.
Mr Clapham said: "Appeals following the consultation period will require to be evidence based. This will include such things as the number of customers, the type of transactions, bus timetables, the viability of the business and whether it is essential to the support of another business that might close if the Post Office did.
"The Post Office network is vital to the local community but wishes of Postmasters and mistresses must also be considered."
Anyone wanting to protest against the closures can go to a meeting on Thursday September 4 from 2pm to 4pm at Hope House Church, Blucher Street, Barnsley.
