A CUDWORTH man is almost £2, 000 worse off and 45 fish down after someone allegedly poured bleach in his garden pond.

Peter Holden, 42, of Royd Avenue, came home from work yesterday morning to find his fish, which included koi carp, mirror carp, ornamental goldfish, golden orfe and golden rudd, floating on the surface and his pond a murky white colour.

He said: "I came back from work to feed them and they were floating on the surface. "It's horrific. There are some really cruel people out there.

"I would rather people steal them for their own gardens than kill them for no reason. "You can tell it's bleach because it smells."

Some of the fish were worth up to £350, with smaller ones worth between £50 and £100. Peter said he put his hosepipe into the pond to dilute the bleach but thought the fish would all soon die.

He insists the incident is not part of a vendetta against him but believes someone got in through the back of the garden. A footpath where youngsters congregate to drink and smoke runs behind it.
