THE new owners of a controversial sex shop have promised it will be more tasteful on reopening.

Local residents picketed the premises on Doncaster Road in Stairfoot, formerly known as Direct Pleasures, when it opened in 2002.

It closed down last year and its owners Jacqui Ashley and Raymond Day put it up for sale when they moved to Thailand.

Pulse and Cocktails, which runs a chain of ‘sex superstores’ across northern and central England, bought the shop and director Graham Kidd said the new shop should open within a month.

He said: “It will be more tasteful and more couple orientated.

“From the outside, it will look more like a tasteful upmarket boutique.”
