A LANDLADY who tried to beat the smoking ban by setting up a 'Smoking Research Centre' has been forced to quit or face the sack.
Cutting Edge landlady Kerry Fenton had let customers smoke in her Worsbrough pub since Friday after exploiting a loophole in the smoke-free legislation.
But pub owners Punch Taverns visited her on Wednesday teatime and told her she would be dismissed if she did not shut the room.
"They said I would have to shut the smoking room down and if I didn't I would get the sack," said Kerry, 36.
"I am extremely disappointed but I am not giving up. I will keep campaigning to get smoke rooms put in place."
The mum-of-four said custom had quadrupled since she transformed the tap room into a smoking room where customers had to complete a questionnaire before lighting up.
She is adamant she has not broken any laws and said the council could not close her down.
