EIGHTEEN people were arrested, four cautioned and 178 fixed penalties handed out during a two month police operation in the Dearne.

Operation Impact focused on issues affecting the local community in Thurnscoe, Bolton and Goldthorpe.

Arrests were made in connection with criminal damage, burglary, drugs, assault and breach of bail conditions. Six were said to be outstanding suspects. The four cautions related to cannabis.

In addition 127 shed alarms were handed out, 148 vehicles and ten pubs checked, 32 houses visited in no cold-calling zones and 566 young people spoken to.

Insp Alan Simpson said: "Operation Impact has allowed us to concentrate additional resources into a specific area and we have achieved some excellent results. We have been able to address many of the issues raised as priorities by residents and will continue to do so.

"Activity over the last two months should demonstrate to the people of Dearne my personal commitment to policing the area and the power of the community’s voice in setting our agenda."
