AN ANGLER couldn't believe his eyes when the missing bird he had read about in the Chronicle literally dropped out of the sky and into the water in front of him.

Dean Nichols, 26, was just packing up after a day's fishing at Hoyle Mill on Sunday when Colin the cockatiel, who had been missing for almost a week, plopped into the water.

After fishing him out with his landing net, Dean was amazed to discover the bird, which escaped from his 11-year-old owner Olivia Clarke's home on Chilcombe Place, Birdwell, was alive, albeit with a cut wing.

He said: "It literally dropped in front of me, it was a bit of a shock. If it hadn't been in the Chronicle I wouldn't have known who it belonged to and if I hadn't got it out it would have died because they can't fly once they get wet."
